I designed this collection as a double interface:
- The first is related to the interaction that exists between clothes and culture
- The second is built around interferences that we find between different cultures, different ways to dress and to produce an apparel.
I was inspired by the culture of my own home country "the Tunisian culture" which is rich in heritage, knowledge and traditional caftsmanship. Over three thousand years of history, this culture remained open to all the civilizational inflow. I got interested in the similarities between the traditional garments worn in North Africa and in the Middle East as well as those worn in Extreme Orient: China, Japan, and Korea.
For example, many guiding threads seem to link kimonos, «jebbas», «djellabas», caftan, and so forth: the cut, the geometry, the structure, the textures, the colors have a common language to reflect tradition and modernity. Even if they are ancestral, those apparels remain very modern. In this sense, they are timeless and continue to represent the limitless sources of inspiration.
Using the elegance of traditional silhouettes caftans, kimonos or Sarouels pants, I tried to bring in the Western garments aspect that mirrors our lifestyle, our desires, and the image that we want to portray of ourselves. The collection includes chosen elements such as a shirt, a collar, patch pockets of a jacket, and other characteristics that would revive the traditional flavor and give it a new life, a new language, a new structure and a dynamic flow that resonates with the life of a modern woman.
This collection meets halfway between East and West, past and future, tradition and modernity. The chosen fabrics express and foster cultural exchange: From English Oxford, to striped Japanese linen and Tunisian hand-woven silks. Such are all the visual dialogues brought to you by this collection.
